Instructor or Engineer

Ian Luo

Engineer/Instructor
Encompassing the friendly California vibe and eclectic nature of San Francisco, Sound Arts engineer Ian Luo is a creative, passionate, and extremely hardworking individual. Ian may be seen riding his vintage-looking single speed around town roving from gig to gig, as he is not only a recording engineer, but a performing DJ and traveling musician as well.
His personal taste in music involves everything from indie band discoveries, to classic recordings and Top-40 pop artists, and his resume reads just as diverse. Engineering credentials include voiceovers, sound design for a telephone program, and various band/music recording projects. He has worked with and on diverse styles of music, such as hip hop, jazz, singer-songwriter, string quartet, electronic, and rock recordings, including local San Francisco band Blackstone Heist. As a musician, Ian has played in multiple school ensembles and bands, including rock, jazz, and funk groups. This experience and knowledge of singing, playing bass, piano and keys also allowed Ian the opportunity to travel to New York, Montana, and Australia to perform.

Señor Oz

Instructor

Senor Oz is becoming a popular name amongst San Francisco club-goers, hosting “Afrolicious” at the Elbo Room every Thursday night, where he showcases his DJ talents and spins an eclectic mix of global electric funk music. It was this underlying musical talent, past teaching experience, and understanding of new age digital audio techniques, that brought Oz onto the Sound Arts team. Oz teaches a variety of exciting DJ classes that are fun, inspiring, and sometimes unconventional as students learn about the underground world and artistry of DJing.
Since his start at Sound Arts, Oz McGuire has brought an exciting new educational opportunity to the studio by offering his professional DJ instruction, personal spinning techniques, and insight to the DJing world. While every class is structured so that the student learns what he or she wants to learn, Oz is the perfect professional to mold that proper DJ curriculum in order to learn and understand what’s most important, and do it well. From learning old school techniques, to the newest DJ product trends, Oz “loves to share information.” He has years of DJ experience, ranging from being a behind the mic radio DJ, to physically spinning vinyl records on a turntable, to understanding new digital DJ techniques.
Oz also brings in his past teaching experience, having taught digital art classes in the past. “I love to turn people on,” Oz proclaims. “Bring together and connect the dots with the music I DJ; I want to teach that.”
