Music Production and Band Recording 1
Description:
Whether you are in a band, a solo artist, or simply want to make the music of your dreams, Sound Arts Music Production classes will lead you through all of the steps you need in order to create your own musical creation. You will produce sounds from the ground up, working through the steps of mic selection, mic placement, audio recording, editing and mixing, overdubbing, adding audio effects. We will be working through lectures and hand-on experience with the tools that will inspire your growth as a sound producer. At the end of class you will have a finished audio product to share with friends. Students are encouraged to bring acoustic instruments (guitars, drums, bass, percussion) to the class, and sample libraries they they may want to use.
Objectives:
1. Record an instrument's vibration into a high quality Pro Tools workstation using a variety of microphones
2. Understand microphone types
3. Understand proximity issues between instruments, and how this effects mic placement - mic placement techniques in a live band setting
3. Know how to edit a waveform
4. Understand real-time effects and how reverb, compression and eq are essential in music production
5. Earn a solid foundation of audio/music production knowledge
