Producing Beats and Electronic Composition 1
Description:
New tools have provided us with creative ways to produce music. This class explores ideas and production techniques surrounding making beats and developing meodies. This class covers a few of the most popular software tools used in the creation of digital audio composition; Abelton Live and ProTools. These tools have become standards of production, and together they represent complementary approaches to composition. This class will also look to the past producers of electronic music to gain a firm understanding of our present creative possibilities.

1. Know the essential history of Electronic Music
2. Listening exercises
3. Compositional ideas and concerns
4. Understand the history and technology of MIDI
5. Sequence a drum beat manually using Ableton Live
6. Record a drum beat using a MIDI controller - keyboard or drum pads
7. Editing and adjusting MIDI recordings and beats
