Recording and Microphone Techniques 1
Description:
This course guides students through the science of sound and the art of microphone design and implementation. This class will thoroughly cover microphone types, design characteristics, proximity to sound sources, mic to pre-amp matching and stereo miking. Students will obtain hands-on training in evaluating the sound quality of microphones in several different contexts. By the end of class, you will have a solid foundation of all microphone types and the invaluable knowledge of choosing the right microphone for any application.
Objectives:
1. Know the fundamental concepts of sound
2. Be able to describe the differences in microphone types
3. Be able to describe the different polar patterns for microphones
4. Describe what proximity effect and sibilance is
5. Understand how to read a frequency response chart
6. Be able to connect a mic to a pre-amp and into an audio interface and software
7. Record a single track recording
